I have a set of crucial ballistix 1gb*2 DDR memory. They work great, and I thought I had them 100% stable at 300mhz @ 3-3-3-8 timings.
It turns out I get about maybe 50 errors in test 5 only running memtest overnight for about 6-7 hours. Some of the tests pass with zero errors.
Any ideas how I can stop the test 5 errors? I know some people mentioned that with different TREF's you can make this problem go away. I have tried a few, but on my DFI expert, there are a LOT. So far, it seems like the lower the better; but I am not sure.
System specs:
Opteron 165 @ 2.7 (9x300) crucial ballistix @ DDR 600 DFI EXPERT mb ATI X1800XT video Enermax 500WATT liberty

If TREF 0016 works then that is your problem. Don't permanently use 0016 though, it sucks
If it does work then try 3864, 2560, 4196, 4708
Try messing with drive strengths also, 7/3, 7/2, and 7/1 all crash during games for me but 5/3 works. All weak values of course.. Just because some don't work for me though doesn't mean they're not right for you

Test 5 is sometimes heat related, put a fan if you dont have one. With Expert you also need slightly more voltage because it gives less than Ultra at the same setting, try an extra .03v or so.

Wich version of memtest are you using ? The one that came with the dfi board?

Yes, I am using the memtest that comes on the DFI board. The memory is cooled with lots of air, cool to the touch.
It is at 2.92vdimm. I am using 3/2 drive strenth right now, that seems to have the most potential. I will use the suggested TREF's and report back.

lol I get about 1 error per minute in memtest in all tests and my prime95 blend fails in 6 minutes and I've been using my comp for 2 weeks 14 hours a day now without a single problem/error with my ram completely unstable. I have corsair XMS pc4000 2x1gb @ 290 2.5-4-3-6 feeding on 2.75volts according to smartguardian. I am just trying to say that it is not for sure that you are gona have problems, however if it is a big deal to you whether you get a reboot or not then you should fix the instability.

^Do you play games at all though? I can have my comp 100% stability test stable but won't play BF2 for a minute.
To threadstarter- I just realized that 5/3 didn't work, 5/2 resulted in no boot, 5/1 was best but still managed to crash CS:S after a few hours. Anything below that just was really unstable (Firefox crashing etc). So I decided to try some normal values just for the hell of it.. 8/3 was no boot, 8/2 was no boot but I just played a few hours of CS:S on 8/1. No BF2 or Far Cry yet so I don't know how stable it is, but just don't forget about the Normal values because they might work for you.. hoping one works for me

Just in case your still having this problem, you have to realize that your sticks just might not do DDR600 game stable, or your memory controller doesn't like it. Raise the volts a little bit, I just fixed my problem by putting volts at 2.7 from 2.6. So to hit DDR600 they may need up to 2.8-2.9.. try running a 180 divider, at 270MHz RAM you won't even notice a difference, even at 166 divider for 245MHz you won't notice any difference.

Memtest86+ on test #5 is mostly related with Vdimm and tight timings, check this out:
