I play source and hl2, and I turned settings ALL THE WAY DOWn I changed my mat_dx level from 9 to 8.1 to 7 then I reinstalled drivers. everytime I changed it. it would always stay at 50 fps on de_train and it would lag like 50% of the time when I explorered map. I am guessing its cpu so i am thinking of getting 64 bit in a month or 2. So if it is my cpu or not. i really want to know I am also thinkin itm y motherboard its like a 10 buck motherboard. So yeah but I did try this on a p4 3.6

Okay I jsut did another test, I put it all on medium, high, all low as possible, all high as possible, different aa and af, different resolutions, I am thinking something is holding the card back. It IS NOT changing it is staying at like 49-52. Not going highr or lower when I change these settings unless I am suppose to restart cs:s

I have an X800 Pro, and I'm not getting massive frame rates. I hate Train, so I don't play but I usually get around 70 fps on Dust...but then again that is me playing alone with bots; I run like 8 person teams. That puts a very big load on the CPU, and this game is heavily CPU bound for many things.

gotgohan u might have problems because of your CPU...i didnt think ur CPU was that bad but thats all I can think of, when it says HL2 Preferred graphics theyre talking about ATI X800 cards in general not ur specific card

Take out your two sticks of 2700 ram, its slowing your system down. Computers read slow memory first then when thats all used up itll go to the 3200. But as for your card, have you installed the latest drivers?

Your theory about the memory is a bit incorrect. All installed memory is run at the same speed, so all the sticks effectively work at the same speed, which has to be the speed of the slowest memory module, the weakest link.
