THIS IS FOR AN AGP BUS SLOT
Circuit city just put up a sale on 6600GTs...
Down to $150 AGP from $250. The problem is, this sale is sparking a thought in my mind to upgrade the GPU in my old Dell D4600, which is still using the onboard 865G Chipset (100 FPS constant 1.6).
The problem is, I looked online, and for the same price, I could get a 6800NU, which stock doesn't offer a whole lot of performance difference over the 6600GT. BUT, it has a good chance of unlocking. Should I get the 6600GT from a closer more local store, or should I go for the 6800NU purely on the fact that I might unlock it? My 330W power supply will easily power them either way, if I don't get constant 12r, then I'll just buy a new one ; /.
Would Circuit City pricematch Newegg on the 6800NU?
I'll actually put it on my 4700, as the 4600 is a P4 2.66 Ghz 533 mhz bus, and the 4700 is a P4 2.8 800 mhz bus. Would a 6600GT be bottlenecked on a 2.66 GHz proc? especially at 1024x768.
Or is there a better AGP slot card for under $200?
Remember to factor in bottlenecking because of the 2.66 GHz proc. it's a dell.

I think your original plan to put this thread in VC was correct, so I'm moving it...

I am not sure about this but I think that I've read that newer rev of 6800nu (agp) are not unlockable anymore (maybe some1 can confirm this?). But even if the previous statement is true I'd still go with the 6800nu as once overclocked it'll be faster then a 6600GT. Not by a lot but since you can get them for the same price why not ?

It was the PCI-E that weren't unlockable the AGP version is unlockable as far as I know still since it uses the same core as the 6800GT/ULTRA. Wear as the PCI-E version used a different core so they only actually really had 12 pipes instead of just having one quad disabled. On the bottleneck factor I'm not exaclty sure what the cpu power that it takes to max the 6600GT is but its probably similar to the 9800pro and thats roughly 3.0 P4 and 3200 or so for A64. I would consider maybe just ordering a 6600 regular since that would match pretty well with the rest of the system and the core should be able to oc some and move closer to GT speed. Newegg had the 6600 for 120 or less so you'd save some money to. In the end its how much do you want to spend.
