Hi All,

I'm setting up a A64 3000+ venice skt 754 and the load temps running Prome 95 is 45c. Is that too high? It seems a little high. This is my first A64 build so I'm not to sure on the temps. Idle temps were 33 to 35c. Should I redo the heatsink before I damage anything? Any help would be greatly appericiated. Thanks a bunch and have a great new year.

Your temps seem OK. Do you have Cool & Quiet enabled BTW?

45 degrees under full load is at least 20 away from allowed max. Don't bother, unless you intend to run this machine in a room 20 degrees hotter than the one it's in now.

Thanks for the replys. I think I have quiet & cool running. I installed it, but I don't know if it's running. How do I know if it's running or not. I did notice that once I stop running the Prime 95 tests. Motherboard monitor showed a quick drop in temps from 45c to 39c and it dropped to 38c before I shut down the PC. The room that I did the tests in is usually cool and breezy (no AC), but I was running Prime at the hottest time of the day. I glad that my temps are OK, I don't think I'll reseat the HS. I'll test it some more and go from there. I'll also read up on the quiet & cool. I want to make sure it's working on my PC. Thanks again.

You can install AMD's monitoring applet to watch CPU speed and voltage switch up and down as C&Q does its work.
You need to switch Windows to a powersaving scheme that actually does save power. For desktop machines, "minimal power management" scheme is recommended.
