Advanced Micro Devices agrees to pay $75M over five years to license chip maker's technology.
January 3, 2006: 9:48 AM EST
BOSTON (Reuters) - Rambus Inc. said Tuesday that chip manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has agreed to pay $75 million over five years to license Rambus technology for boosting the speed at which computer chips communicate with each other.
Shares in Rambus (up $1.67 to $17.86, Research) increased 11 percent in electronic trading on the Inet electronic brokerage network.
Rambus generates revenue by developing technologies designed to make computers more powerful. It patents them, then sells the rights to other companies, which integrate the technologies into their products.

Don't worry
It means they are licencing the designs of DDR2/3,FBDimm, PCI-E and XDR.

The only strange thing this may mean is that they will start producing their own chipsets. That would be the day
