I'm getting a new motherboard, processor, and ram for a computer. I'm looking at amd processors for an asus atx socket 754 board and I wanted to know which processor would be better: Sempron 64 3000+ or Sempron 64 2800+
The 3000 is obviously faster, but only has 128 cache, while the 2800 has 256. I'm not looking to overclock here or anything, just a standard comparison of the two. Or if there's another processor in that price range (less than $100) that'd be better, I'm all ears.

well usually cpu speed is more important, but in this case, since the cache is soo slow, I would go with the 2800.

actually they do fine with even 128K. K8s have 128K of L1 cache, and P4s have, what, 16K?

Still, I'd get the 2800 as more cache is always better. Can't you get a full-fledged Athlon64 with 512K for like $100? Look around for a 2800+ or 3000+ athlon64.
