Hi all. I built an AMD machine with A8N-Delux MB. It was working fine until one day the network connection stopped working. Not just the internet (on a LAN), but unable to get on the local LAN.
I am certain the network is functional. CAT cable into another computer works fine. Have done all the rebooting sequnces many times. Uninstalled and re-installed drivers many times, until W2000 got buggy.
Re-installed W2000, installed drivers, etc. Cable lights on (blinking green) on MB ports and switch ports. I believe all settings are correct (DHCP, etc).
Ran IPCONFIG /all, but the IP address was 169.254.21.163
All our other computers are 192.168.1.xxx, as is customary with a home setup on a router. Installed new router (Netgear wireless 108MB).
Tried setting the IP on the problem machiine to 192.168.1.9, and reserved that IP on the router, specifying the MAC address for that machine. Still no connection. The hardware appears to be working (lights on), but the TCP/IP appears to have a problem.
Has anyone had this problem? I cannot figure it out. Are there issues with this board and W2000? I spent an hour with ASUS tech support and got nowhere. The only thing I haven't tried yet is connecting directly to the cable modem.
I don't understand why the IP given to the machine would be so different than the other computers, I don't think the router actually assigned that IP, in fact the available range on the router setup is listed as 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (if I remember correctly).
Again, I have done the whole restart, reset, reboot routine many, many times. Installed W2000 3 times. I have installed W2000 dozens of times without this particular problem.
Would anyone have an idea of the problem?
Thanks for any comment, Ray Fitzgerald

Howdy Senor, I have done the reboot routine countless times. I can try again,,,,,,,tried it again to no avail.
The IP address is still listed as 169.xxx.xxx.xxx
I will try a direct connection to the modem. They are in different parts of the house, so I have been putting that off.
Thanks, Ray

I tried connecting directly to the modem. The Marvel port actually worked. The Nvidia port did not. Put the modem back on the router, and again no connection on either port.
All other computers work fine. I have always used DHCP. I had tried resetting the one port to a fixed IP to see if it would work.
I even have a Pentium II still connected to this network, never a problem. That's what is so frustrating. The router DHCP seems to be working, the MB seems to be working, the modem works, but I cannot get on.

Do this....click start then run...type cmd then in the box type ipconfig /release then do ipconfig /renew that will usually reset the connection for you.

Tried that. Got this result:
'Adapter Local Area Connection was automatically configured and does not currently have a DHCP address. The IP address for this adapter can not be released.'
DHCP is enabled for that port.
This is the same port that worked connected directly to the modem.

Hey!
I built the same motherboard setup for my brother. Had so many problems with the Nvidia Nic I finally disabled it in all instances of windows and used the Marvel port. I know this isnt really a good solution, but I was tired of running over to my parents house to fix the LAN that just suddenly would 'quit working'. Sometimes it would work when I rebooted, sometimes I had to actually unplug the power to the power supply/shut off the power supply switch before the internet would come back on the Nvidia Nic. I tried contacting Asus, I really just got fed up with the responses because I am not an idiot and they were treating me like one.
I finally.. like I said, decided they (asus) would realize something is foobared when people started returning thier mobos for the Nvidia Nic not working and either come out with some patches or some type of fix would be found online.
Well .. because it has been working on the marvel lan I havnt really looked lately to see if they have some type of patch for the Nvidia Nic lately.
I know this isnt really a solution to a problem. I just wanted you to know what I did.
