I've setup several wireless networks before so I kinda know what I'm doing. Everytime I have setup a wireless network I have been able to see the wireless router on the pc once the wireless card and router were on and installed. Well I have this laptop with a built in wireless router and I cant for the life of me get it to find any wireless network. I have now tried it in 3 different locations with 3 different routers. I've made sure the wireless network card is turned on, router is broadcasting the ssid, tried security on and off, made sure the wireless card was turned on in the bios, nothing. I'm stumped. At this point I'm really thinking the wireless card is dead. This computer came from a place that refurbs laptops and is out of warranty and this is the first time trying to set it up wirelessly. BTW I can get on wired. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'll probably just go buy one of those wireless network cards that plugs into your usb port, but I would rather use the built in one. Thanks, -Rob

I would say grab yourself a copy of Netstumbler and see if you can find your network. If not then either the wireless router is bad. Or your wireless NIC is bad (or maybe too far/being blocked) . You will have to use trial and error to determine which one. Maybe you have a friend with a wireless laptop you can have him come over and see if he can connect to your WiFi.

I have 2 other computers on this network working just fine. I tried it at another friends house also, it didnt work there either. Whats weird is that even tho the software says the wireless card is on, the wireless light on the laptop doesnt light up. I'm not sure if it lights up only when connected, or when the card is turned on. I will try netstumbler.

well, we're getting along abit slow and I need some zz's as I got to go to work early, for IBM as it would have it lol
1-800-426-7378 opt 1, opt 1, opt 1, put in machine type 2682 then select wireless/Access connections option (should be option 1) ..that is IBM tech support for Thinkpads.
if u run into issues, ask for Mike Hamilton, he is working tonight.
Any questions, tell him Ron told ya to call in for help.

Take my story with grain of salt: I have whole house networked and have 4 computers connected working well. Everytime I try to link a wireless device(2 different laptops at different times and 1 pocketPC) it never worked the first day I try. It won't see the network period. Then on the second day it will work as if nothing was wrong.
This was very frustrating. Now I just wait a day after I configure the device and link it the second day. Does anybody know why?
