I have two PCs’ on a router switch in my home:

PC-a is shearing a folder for PC-3
And PC-3 is shearing its own folder for PC-a to access.
Both are in the same workgroup.

If you look at this first link: I have screen shots of PC-a trying to access PC-3's share folder but for some reason PC-3 is asking pc-a for a password, why?
http://www.pyramid-of-wisdom.com/pcname.html

the part that doesn’t make sense is this: If you right click the folder that PC-3 is shearing while sitting at computer-3, it is set to allow full control to all users. Take a look at Computer# 3’s Folder settings on this shared folder.

What am I doing wrong? to my knowledge I don't have any passwords set and both computers automatically log on to their own accounts.

Is one of the machines WinXP Professiona;. If so, from explorer, do:

Tools > Folder Options > View and enable the Simple File Sharing option right at the bottom of the list

Windows uses your username and password to authenticate you on a network and to access network shares. You need proper logon accounts where users must enter their username and password to logon to the machine. The full control access permissions you refer to only affect what a user can do once they are connected to the share.

Are both machines networking settings configured to the same workgroup?

Do you have a login and password for PC-A How about for PC-3? If you are logged into PC-3 and trying to access PC-A but your login and password are different on one pc than the other, then networking is going to ask you for the login and and password to even be able to access PC-A. Hope that makes sense.

And Had I fullly read Ned's response he basically said what I was trying to say. You should still be able to map the network share though. Sorry Ned.

Hi everyone
One thing I just found out is, I can access computer 3 if I type in either the user account-Name/Pass or The Admin Name/pass, "of computer 3"
But why don't I have to do this when conneting to PC-A from PC3?

Everything you guys mentioned was taking care of right from the start:

@ Ned Slider:
-Computer A is Windows XP-Pro
-Computer 3 is Windows 2000 Professional, Simple file shearing is disabled on both Computers, but enabling it I still get prompted when trying to log in from PCa-xp to PC3 win2k.
Note: It is only when trying to log into PC3/Win2k from the XP machine where I get the password. Yet I can go on the PC3 machine running win2k and log into the XP machine no problem. The only way for me to access the PC3 machine is to enter PC-3's Admin Log/and password from Computer A/xp

@ StompinRound

Yes, that was the first thing I did, the work group is FamilyFolder on both machines.
I did a tutorial that looked very easy.

@ Yeah

Both computers have their own user accounts along with the administrator account but that’s it. Just two accounts on each. But both computers automatically log on to windows when you start them, another words when starting either of the two machines, know one has to enter a password to get to the desktop, it’s automatic and both user accounts on computers A and 3 have full administrator rights.

If you force users to enter their username and password when logging on then the prompt should disappear (provided the username/passwords are the same on both boxes and the logged in user has the appropriate share permissions).

In this case, you can go to user accounts on Computer A, select your account and on the left side you will see an option for Manage My Network Passwords. Select this option, pick Add and then enter the name for the Windows 2000 machine, the username to use and the password. Click OK and the next time you connect to Computer 3, it'll be transparent. Note that this option doesn't like blank passwords.

In simple terms....

Make sure you have the same account names with the same passwords on BOTH PCs.
